Sometimes we worship our work, and it leads to stress, bitterness, and burnout. What if we see our work as an act of worship? There is a Redeemer, who rescues our rhythms of work and rest, significance and purpose.
A. Gospel framework for work
- God created work and gave it to us as a [gift].
Genesis 1-2
- In response to our rebellion in sin, work is [cursed].
Genesis 3
- Jesus [redeems] our work.
New Testament
redeem : to buy something back,
to rescue out of a bad situation
Colossians 3:23, “whatever you do, work heartily…”
B. the phrase: “whatever you do”
C. the word: “heartily”
how God wants us to do whatever we do.
Two Greek words literally translated: [from soul]
- a call for [quality]
Genesis 1
Am I doing the work God has given me to do well?
- a call to [integrity]
Colossians 3:22
Am I doing the work God has given me to do with integrity?
- a call to [faithfulness]
Colossians 3:24
Am I doing the work God has given me to do faithfully over time?
KEY POINT:
in a fallen world, your quality, your integrity,
and your faithfulness will be challenged!
- there will be [joy]
