Song – “My Hope is Built / On Christ the Solid Rock”

Verse 1
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ Name

Refrain
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Verse 2
When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

Verse 3
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

Verse 4
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh, may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

Message – “The Priority of Knowing God”

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-13
Speaker: Pastor Joshua Scheid
Series: Pressing On

Where are you in pressing on?

Throughout Scripture, the idea of running a race is an often used metaphor for the Christian life.

A. [Fatigue] can threaten our faith;
losing heart is a great spiritual [danger].

B. When fatigue sets in, [remembering] these four truths
helps us to persevere and press on.

  1. Others have [successfully finished] the race
    that you’re running.
    Hebrews 10:36-39, 11:32-12:1
  1. Jesus also ran this race,
    and he blazed a trail for you.
    Hebrews 12:2-3 (cf. 10:36)
KEY POINT (v2): "...who for the joy set before him
       endured the cross..."

Not just [His own] joy, but [our] joy!
  1. The challenges you face as you run the race
    are not as bad as they might be.
    (A good word to put things in [perspective].)
    Hebrews 12:4
  1. God is actively working in every challenge,
    and He is always acting for your [good].
    Hebrews 12:7-11
Because we know these truths,
we can strengthen the knees that are weak—
our own...and one another's—helping each other
to not grow weary, not lose heart, not give up,
so that we might press on until we finish the race
and enter into the fullness of Christ's joy!

Song – “O Church Arise”

Verse 1
O church, arise, and put your armor on;
Hear the call of Christ our captain.
For now the weak can say that they are strong
In the strength that God has given.

With shield of faith and belt of truth,
We’ll stand against the devil’s lies.
An army bold, whose battle cry is love,
Reaching out to those in darkness.

Verse 2
Our call to war, to love the captive soul,
But to rage against the captor;
And with the sword that makes the wounded whole,
We will fight with faith and valor.

When faced with trials on every side,
We know the outcome is secure.
And Christ will have the prize for which He died:
An inheritance of nations.

Refrain
Arise, shine for your light has come
Arise, shine for the Risen Son
Lift your eyes, we are His radiant bride
Arise, o church arise!

Verse 3
Come, see the cross, where love and mercy meet,
As the Son of God is stricken;
Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,
For the Conqueror has risen!

And as the stone is rolled away,
And Christ emerges from the grave,
This victory march continues till the day
Every eye and heart shall see Him.

Verse 4
So Spirit, come, put strength in every stride;
Give grace for every hurdle.
That we may run with faith to win the prize
Of a servant good and faithful.

As saints of old, still line the way,
Retelling triumphs of His grace,
We hear their calls, and hunger for the day
When with Christ we stand in glory.

Refrain x2
