Are you keeping in step with the Spirit or keeping in step with the world?


THE REALITY OF THE CONFLICT

A. The [flesh] (v. 19-21)

1. The flesh [distorts] sexuality
2. The flesh [disfigures] faith
3. The flesh [destroys] relationships

B. The [Spirit] (v. 22-23)

The Spirit and the flesh both promise 
the same thing, but only one can deliver—
one is the way of life, light, and love;
the other is the way of death, darkness, and despair.

THE WAY OF VICTORY (v. 24)

The cross of Christ frees us 
from fear-based behavioral modification
into love-based transformation.

HOW DO I PRESS ON TO KEEP IN STEP WITH THE SPIRIT?

στοιχέω (v. 25) : to keep pace, to walk in cadence (active!)

1. [Crucify] your flesh
2. [Arm] yourself with God’s Word

Don't mistakenly think about life in the Spirit
as just being carried along effortlessly by the Spirit.
Scripture is clear that the only thing we're effortlessly
carried along by are the winds and whims of the world.
It is not enough to yield passively to the Spirit's control; 
we must also actively walk in the Spirit's way.
