Song – “Just As I Am / I Come Broken”
Verse 1
Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee
O Lamb of God, I come, I come
Verse 2
Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot
O Lamb of God, I come, I come
Refrain
I come broken to be mended
I come wounded to be healed
I come desperate to be rescued
I come empty to be filled
I come guilty to be pardoned
By the blood of Christ the Lamb
And I’m welcomed with open arms
Praise God just as I am
Verse 3
Just as I am, I would be lost
But mercy and grace my freedom bought
And now to glory in Your cross
O Lamb of God, I come, I come
Refrain twice

Message – “Love One Another”
Scripture: 1 John 4:7-12, 19-21
Speaker: Pastor Joshua Scheid
Series: Pressing On
What is it that Jesus says?
[Love one another]
(John 13:34-35, cf. Matthew 22:39)
THE FOUNDATION
A. Who God is…
- God is [love] (v. 8)
- God is [light] (1 John 1:5)
- God is a consuming fire (Heb 12:29, cf. Deut 4:24)
God's love made a way to expose our sin— He is light, He is just—and to consume our sin— He is holy, He is fire—without destroying us, but saving us...because He is love.
B. What God has done…
- God [sent His Son] (v. 9-10)
- Propitiation (v. 10) : something that removes judgment
THE EXPECTATION
A. Perfected (v. 12) : fulfilled, accomplished
B. Why is it a commandment?
I can either [press into]
or [pull away] from His love
"for the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to keep you from doing the things you want to do." — Galatians 5:17
How do I press on in loving one another?
- [Connect] with one another
- Speak words of [encouragement] to one another
- [Care] for one another
"from him the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so it builds itself up in love" — Ephesians 4:16

Song – “How Firm A Foundation”
Verse 1
How firm a foundation you saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word
What more can He say than to you He has said
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled
Verse 2
Fear not I am with you, oh be not dismayed
For I am your God and will still give you aid
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand
Verse 3
When through the deep waters I call you to go
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow
For I will be with you, your troubles to bless
And sanctify to you your deepest distress
Verse 4
When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie
My grace all sufficient shall be your supply
The flame shall not hurt you, I only design
Your dross to consume and your gold to refine
Verse 5
The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose
I will not, I will not desert to his foes
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!
Reprise
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!
