Message – “Pressing On”

Scripture: Philippians 3:12-16
Speaker: Pastor Joshua Scheid

Am I pressing on?

1. The foundation what [God] has done

» “Christ Jesus has made me his own” (Phil 3:12)
» “The righteousness from God that depends on faith” (Phil 3:9; cf. Romans 3:20-21)
» Is that your clear claim as well: Christ Jesus has made you his own?

Paul counts everything as loss so that
   "I may know [Christ],
and the power of his resurrection,
that I may share in his sufferings
becoming like him in his death,
   that by any means possible
I may attain the resurrection from the dead."

He wants to know Christ more and more.
This is the  [compelling longing]  in his life;
it is the [controlling passion] of his life.

2. The expectation – what [we] do

“I press on to make it my own.” (Phil 3:12)
Can you say: I’m pressing on to make it my own?

» Is there progress in your [trusting] and [treasuring] the gospel?
» Is there progress in your [obedience] to the gospel?
» Is there progress in your [sharing] the gospel with one another and with those who don’t know and love Jesus yet?

» The Christian journey is not without a [finish line]. (Phil 3:14)

   PRESS ON
     toward the goal
     for the prize
     the upward call of God
     in Christ Jesus
         Philippians 3:14

Song – “In Christ Alone I Stand Amazed”

Verse 1
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

Verse 2
In Christ alone, Who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

Verse 3
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Verse 4
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Bridge
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Refrain
How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

Verse 1
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.

Refrain
How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

Verse 2
And with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
‘Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.

Refrain
How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
repeat refrain
